Kathy Murphy

Kathy is a mainstay of our social dance programs. A graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, she spent 32 years teaching in the school system. Her sense of humour, coupled with her belief that having fun and enjoying yourself is the primary goal of dance, keeps her classes entertaining and eventful.

Janet Hartman

Janet, a retired elementary school educator, joined Edgett as a student. She quickly became addicted to the joy of music and movement combined and is now passing this on to our students. She brings great enthusiasm and an infectious laugh to helping people learn the basics.

Ian Crewe

Ian first fell in love with dance over 18 years ago, while watching couples dance at Toronto’s Beaches Jazz Festival. This love grew throughout university and following years resulting in numerous adventures with wedding couples, competitive and social performances and even flash mobs. After 13 years of teaching in Toronto, Ian felt the pull of the East Coast draw him to Halifax where he currently lives with his wife and pet rabbit. His ultimate goal is to “break through the fears that can hold so many of us back on the dance floor, to encourage you to achieve everything you want from dancing and maybe realize how much further you can go.”

Nadia Kiseleva

Dance Instructor

Nadia was a competitor dancer for 14 years – since she was 10 years old. She recently came with her family to Halifax from Russian. Her competitive dance partner became her husband. As owners of a dance sport club in Russia, they coached dancers from beginners to competitors and had the province’s winners for more than 10 years. All their own three kids dance ballroom and that is a valuable experience for all of them. The hard work a couple has to do together to achieve a goal is a great teamwork experience for girls and boys. Nadia has experienced this as a dancer, coach, and parent. Nadia believes that everyone can dance and enjoy it, and that everybody’s dancing is unique.

Laurel Schut

Yoga instructor

Laurel is a self-identified multipotentialite (a person whow has many different interests and creative pursuits in life): she is a part-time yoga and fitness instructor, a part-time university instructor in the field of sustainability, and the Co-Director of foundns.com, Nova Scotia’s first food-rescue organization. A common theme: she is teaching all the time! When it comes to yoga and movement, her passion for variety is evident: she enjoys finding the balance of ease and challenge, stillness and sweat, and quiet introspection within community.
